Fluted Designs In The Bathroom

Fluted Designs In The Bathroom

Fluted finishes have become increasingly sought-after in bathroom design, favoured for their elegant and timeless appeal. Below, we explore the fluted trend with design inspiration and product recommendations.

The distinctive fluted trend creates depth and dimension, seen across all areas of bathroom design in a variety of materials, including wood, glass, and ceramic. Please read on to discover the benefits of specifying fluted finishes in the bathroom as well as our designer’s curated product selection to inspire your next project.

Why Choose a Fluted Finish?

Exceptionally Versatile

The first benefit of featuring fluted finishes in the bathroom is their versatility. Fluted finishes can be used as a decorative element on walls, cabinetry, and even brassware, creating a sense of movement that gives the space a more interesting and dynamic feel.

Heightened Durability

Fluted finishes are extremely durable, with most designs made from wood, ceramic, and reinforced glass that can withstand moisture and humidity – an ideal choice for bathrooms. Easy to clean (with a cloth or sponge), fluted finishes in the bathroom are a lasting investment.

Classical and Contemporary Styling

Not limited to one interior style, fluted design can be used in both classical and contemporary schemes. For traditional areas, it can add a touch of classical elegance that harmonises with ornate fixtures and vintage touches. For modern spaces, flutes add unique texture that can complement clean lines and a minimal aesthetic.

Fluted bathroom furniture continues to be highly sought-after, an option offered by most leading bathroom furniture makers, including the Italian brands Artelinea and IdeaGroup.

Monolite, one of Artelinea’s signature bathroom furniture ranges, displays a series of fluted finishes that offer a visual and tactile feature reminiscent of Art Deco aesthetics. “Crafted from enamelled fluted glass, the furniture exudes a feeling of movement and airiness whilst maintaining its traditional geometric shapes and clean structure,” comments Yousef Mansuri, C.P. Hart's Director of Design.

Popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when decorative metalwork was at its peak, the fluted trend has, too, extended to bathroom brassware design.

The classical Venti20 brassware collection by Italian makers Gessi captures the energy of classic 1920s Art Deco style through linear forms and refined fluted detailing. The range is available in over 10 finishes, including Chrome, Matt Black, Nickel, and Aged Bronze.

For a more contemporary feel, the Venezia glass handles by Fantini are crafted from sophisticated Murano glass, created in collaboration with long-established Venetian glass specialist Venini.

Fluted glass shower screens are a striking and practical addition to any bathroom, providing a unique and elegant aesthetic whilst serving a functional purpose.

The flutes create a translucent surface which enhances privacy in the bathroom without blocking natural light, an excellent choice for family bathrooms or to screen off the WC area.

Displayed in C.P. Hart Waterloo, the Oslo shower screen by Majestic Showers features a fluted modesty band, styled here with a fluted Artelinea Fusion vanity unit and our ‘Four Season’ Wanderlust tiles.

Fluted bathroom ceramics are a characterful addition to any bathroom space. With precision manufacturing and close attention to detail, the fluted design is worked into the surface to create a distinct aesthetic that ensures durability.

The organic texture of British brand Kast’s Aura Pedestal concrete basin, displayed in our Bradley Van Der Straeten room set collaboration, creates a compelling contrast to the bathroom’s smooth surfaces. Also exhibited at C.P. Hart Waterloo is the Copenhagen basin by Itlas, a contemporary take on a classic washstand featuring a carved marble basin supported on a handcrafted solid timber frame.

“Natural materials instantly elevate a bathroom, combining tactile qualities with gentle beauty. Copenhagen blends these materials with elegant, uncluttered style to create a truly original piece,” comments Yousef.

Fluted walls give the room impressive depth and dimension, an excellent option for stud walls or bathroom dividers.

“Nature has woven its way into bathroom designs for many years, particularly intertwining with the ever-popular fluted trend,” says Yousef. “We’re seeing more and more timber in vertical flutes, horizontal stripes, and wrap-around bands featured on furniture, wall coverings, and room dividers, varying in tones from pale through to dark. A fluted wall covering can also assist with acoustics by minimising unwanted noise.”
