The Department Store saw the commercial redevelopment of an Edwardian department store into architectural firm Squire & Partners’ office space in Brixton, London. C.P. Hart was chosen to supply the washrooms for this esteemed project.The Specification
The Department Store comprises four storeys of contemporary office space, complete with a 5,000 sq. foot rooftop, a design studio, a bar and restaurant, a screening room, and a co-working lounge. Original features were preserved throughout the building, such as the teak flooring, installed in 1906, and the grand central staircase.In the bathrooms, walls were stripped back to their original brickwork, with untouched Crittall windows and cast-iron radiators nodding to the building’s industrial foundation. To harmonise with The Department Store’s historic fabric, C.P. Hart selected Samuel Heath Landmark Industrial brassware in the Urban Brass finish, with Xenon accessories and bespoke pull handles to match.
The Result
The Department Store’s renovation documents the building’s past while modernising the architecture to create an immersive space for not only Squire & Partners but also for the creative community. The bathrooms echo the soul and warmth of the raw materials and muted colour palette that is apparent throughout the building. The Samuel Heath brassware, made entirely in the UK, displays the best of British craftsmanship.Contact Us
